It’s been said that the average New York Times Sunday edition
contains more information than a person in 15th century England was
exposed to during their entire lifetime.
In the information age, our minds get bombarded daily with so much
data that we start filtering it out as a self-defense mechanism.
On the Internet, the information overload gets so severe that it
seems to bring out the ADD (attention deficit disorder) in all of
us.

Did you know that literally millions of pages of content
exist out on the Internet that you can legally use (some
would even say “swipe”) to put content on your website?
It’s true!
In fact, “public domain” material can form the basis for
ebooks, articles, blog content and even autoresponder email
messages.
So if you need content for your website, this article may
hold the key to discovering an avalanche of available
material requiring you to write very little (if any) of it
yourself.

When someone threatens us, we instinctively look for ways to
either avoid, evade or protect ourselves from the perceived
threat.
In business, where money, security, and even our family’s
future rides on our every move, anyone or anything we
perceive as a “threat” usually causes us to go into
“protection” mode.
Once in “protection” mode, we close off to all possibilities
except avoiding or defeating the threat.

Ever heard the saying “Penny-wise and Dollar-foolish”?
Well bargain priced website hosting may just represent the perfect
example of watching a jar full of pennies while bucket loads of
dollars fly out the window!
When I launched my first website way back in the “dark ages” of 1997
I paid almost $150 a month in hosting and data transfer charges.
My web host watched how many files I uploaded like a hawk and always
seemed to send their hefty invoices earlier with each passing month.

How safe is anyone’s copyright online?
Well imagine my surprise when I clicked on a website link to
discover that someone had not only copied my website to their server
- but was selling my ebook and undercutting me in the process! Some
dishonest person operating from Eastern Europe had literally stolen
my entire business and I discovered it only by sheer luck.
After some very lengthy and threatening emails I got them shut down,
but the question remains, how safe is your copyright online and what
can you do to protect it?
Traditionally written works have enjoyed copyright protection not
only through the rule of law, but also because of the physical
difficulty in stealing another person’s work. Let’s face it,
photocopying a 200 page book rates about as much fun as watching
paint dry and at 5 cents a page you’re talking a quick ten dollar
printing bill.
